About

The Women’s Democratic Club of Clark County (“WDC”) is the oldest and largest Democratic club in Nevada. It was chartered in 1955 by the Clark County Democratic Party:

  • To foster loyalty in our country and respect for the flag, and to assist in developing the highest concept of patriotism;

  • To encourage membership in the Democratic Party;

  • To assist in the election of Democratic candidates to all political offices;

  • To assist the Democratic National, State, and County Central Committees.

WDC has several programs to meet its goals.

  1. Annual Spotlight Dinner (Our signature fundraiser is the Spotlight Dinner, which takes place in September of most years. This dinner is the primary source of revenue that allows us to donate to Democratic candidates.)

  2. The Bonnie Bryan Award (Bonnie Fairchild Bryan was First Lady of Nevada from 1983 to 1989.The Bonnie Bryan award is given in conjunction with the Spotlight Dinner as we honor women that have dedicated their lives to helping others with their generous heart and ask nothing in return. Senator Richard Bryan designates the honoree and presents the recipient with her award.)

  3. The Francis Perkins Union Award (Francis Perkins was the first female Secretary of Labor. She served under the Franklin Delano Roosevelt term, 1933-1945. This award is given to a female union activist and leader in conjunction with the Spotlight Dinner.)

  4. Candidate Contributions (The proceeds from the Spotlight Dinner are dispersed among Democratic candidates in the Spring of each campaign year. WDC is a significant donor; over the years, WDC has given more than half a million dollars in donations to Democratic candidates.)

  5. Renee Diamond Scholarship (This is a scholarship awarded to a female Democratic student attending a Nevada institution of higher education every August. The scholarship is a competitive process and funded from monies collected at our monthly meetings.)

  6. Women's Equality Awards (We help identify up and coming Democratic women who are doing important work in our community(ies) by recognizing them with a Women's Equality Award. The awards are given out every August to 4-6 deserving women. Many of them have gone on to run for office.)

  7. Thalia Dondero Trailblazer Award (Ms. Dondero opened the doors of opportunity for countless Nevada women. She was the first woman elected to the Clark County Commission, a body she was elected to for a total of 20 years and served as its chairperson three times. She also served on the Board of Regents for 12 years. She served both bodies with honor and distinction. The Thalia Dondero Trailblazer Award is given in conjunction with the Women's Equality Awards to a woman who has blazed a trail in Southern Nevada with honor and distinction.)

  8. Collaboration with regional Democratic clubs (WDC works regularly with numerous other local Democratic clubs and caucuses to conduct events, trainings, etc.)

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
